Spiffy news for movie fans who have been disappointed at the Best Picture Oscar nominees over the past decade - an honor usually bestowed on artsy fartsy films very few people ever see:
The summer blockbuster "The Dark Knight" starring Christian Bale and the late Heath Ledger - a movie which most everyone saw and loved - is among the five films nominated for best picture at the 20th Annual Producers Guild Awards.
The death of actor Heath Ledger, who was on the cusp of breaking into mega celebrity thanks to his performance in 'The Dark Knight,' was voted as the biggest movie news story in 2008. Over 3.5 million votes were cast in the December poll at AOL's Moviefone.com deciding on the best and worst movie events for the year.
Ledger, whose death at age 28 in January 2008 of an accidental prescription drugs overdose shocked the world, received a whooping 83 percent of votes as the biggest movie news of the year.
Jennifer Lopez blames hubby Marc Anthony for her career "going down the tubes," says a new report in Us Weekly. The mag has observed the two have attended events separately this month, and that JLo has been photographed without her wedding ring on.

'The Day the Earth Stood Still' grabbed the number one spot for the weekend box office. As Keanu Reeves would say, "Whoa." The sci-fi remake of the over-rated 1951 cult film took in $31 million in the US, and $70 million worldwide. That's a lot of coin for a movie that sucks.
Keanu played the alien Klaatu who must judge the human race and Jennifer Connelly played as an astrobiologist on whom the world's fate depends. The movie also starred Will Smith's kid, Jaden Smith, and Kathy Bates.
The late Heath Ledger has been nominated for a Golden Globe award posthumously for his role as the Joker in "The Dark Knight." He will win, and possibly win a Best Supporting Oscar statue as well. Otherwise, 'The Dark Knight,' the year's biggest hit, was snubbed in all other categories at the Globes.
"Heath was a friend of mine. He gave his all in that film. I think he will win in that category. He'll also get an Oscar," said Terrence Howard, about his co-star's nomination for "The Dark Knight."

The sequel to the 2007 flick ‘The Da Vinci Code’ sees the return of Robert Langdon, Professor of Religious Symbology, who will follow more clues written on and around dead bodies (cardinals this time), cryptic messages, car chases, and groups with a vendetta against the Catholic Church.
By the looks of the trailer, what won't be back in this sequel is Hanks' bad hair days.
